The next year took us to Northern Italy, to discover Bonaparte’s first campaigns (1796 and 1800).
In 1993, there were two Tours—one in Germany and one on Stonewall’s Valley Campaigns of 1862 and 1864 in Virginia.

The tour for 1998 went to Poland and the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia—formerly East Prussia.
The following year we returned to Waterloo.
In 2000 there were two Tours: Northern Italy again, and Bavaria and Austria to cover the Danube campaigns on 1805 and 1809.

Tour 2010 returned to Italy for the third time.
In 2011 we followed Napoleon’s 1813 campaign in central Germany.
In 2012 we returned to Waterloo for the third time.

The Tour for 2017 went to Spain and Portugal.

The Tour for 2026 was our fourth to Northern Italy.
At most of the battlefields we met local historians who gave us an account of the battle. But at Novi we had no local guide. I knew next to nothing about the battle, except that there were some hills to the south of Novi, that I noticed when I was laying out the map for the game.
So I picked a town called Tassarolo in the foothills where I thought we might be able to have an overlook point, but as we drove through the town we didn't see any. We passed two men sitting in front of a coffee house. So I asked the driver to stop in a convenient location, and Nicola and I walked back to the coffee house and asked the men if they knew of a place where we could get an overview of the battlefield.
One of the men seemed to know quite a bit about the battle. In fact, his great-great-great-great grandfather was IN the battle! He offered to show us a spot where we could see a part of the battlefield, between Tassarolo and Pasturana, accompanied us there and gave a narration. While this was going on, a car pulled over, and it was his friend, the mayor of Pasturana, wondering what was going on.
