Plan to join Kevin Zucker and an international group of Napoleonic enthusiasts
to the major battlefields and smaller combats; including Jena and the fortress
towns of Wittenberg, Dresden, Torgau and the Erz Mountains. Travel the route of
Napoleon's conquering armies as they drove the Prussians back from Saxony and
beyond the Elbe in 1806 (on day 3), and then walk the most important
battlefields from Napoleon's defense of Saxony in the 1813 campaign (on days 2,
4 and 5).
Follow in the footsteps of the armies, through towns filled with reminders of a
bygone age, past forests and streams, old inns and churches standing just as
they were in 1806. Travel at a comfortable pace, taking time to explore along
the way. Meet local historians and enthusiasts who are familiar with the terrain
and conversant with details concerning their locality which are often not
recorded in the history books. Enjoy specialties of the region.
Without a doubt, the Jena Campaign was one of Napoleon's finest, while the 1813
campaign exceeded his ability to manage. Join us on this tour to the Napoleonic
Age.

This Tour is limited to 15 dedicated battlefield travelers.
The history is exciting, but the best part is
meeting people. All the localities have put us in touch with local historians in
their area. They are enthusiastic to share their knowledge about their
historical past.

Travel. We depart from the States, and arrive in Germany the next morning.
Day 2, Monday, May 23 - Meetings, Wittenberg
Introduction into the tour plan. Tour the historic town where Luther posted the
Ninety-five Theses on the door of the Castle Church, visit the headquarters of
Marshal Ney and Napoleon.
Day 3, Tuesday, May 24 - Auerstedt, Jena, Kapellendorf, Vierzehnheiligen,
Hassenhausen.

the whole thing about 12x12 feet. Stay overnight around Lützen/Leipzig.
Day 4, Wednesday, May 25 - Leipzig, Lützen
In Leipzig there is a huge monument with an attached museum, just reopened last
year. Just 15 minutes away on Lützen battlefield (including Rahna, Kaja, Klein-
und Grossgoerschen) the villages have changed very little. Stay over night
around Dresden
Day 5, Thursday, May 26 - Dresden, Kulm, Königstein
It will take us about 2 1/2 hours from Wittenberg to Dresden, several hours of
visiting the most important sites within the city. In Dresden-Friedrichstadt (at
the former Marcolini Palace) we will visit Napoleon's office, where he signed
the armistice treaty with Metternich. Then about 1 hour trip to Telpitz/
Priesten/ Kulm.
The travel to Bad Schandau (about 1/2 mile upstream of the Königstein-fortress)
and the area where we should cross the River Elbe to enter the "Napoleonic Road"
as it still is named towards Sebnitz-Neustadt-Bautzen) will take about another
hour. Stay over night around Dresden
Day 6, Friday, May 27 - Wartenburg, Dennewitz, Grossbeeren
At Wartenburg, where York's Prussian Corps crossed the Elbe, is a wonderful little
museum neatly decorated with a medium-sized diorama of the battle. Stay over
night at Wittenberg
